Joseph Merritt & Company, a nationally recognized graphic imaging and printing corporation, based in Hartford, Connecticut has expanded their digital printing capabilities. The Hartford office recently acquired additional Kodak Digimaster 9150 and 9110 Production Printers. With their three-shift operation, Merritt has a capacity to produce over 750,000 black and white printed impressions per day.
“The market is demanding higher volume digital production within shorter timeframes, and this acquisition gives us the capacity to meet these customer requirements”, says Patrick Freer, Executive Vice President and General Manager. “High –quality, short- run, four color printing, delivered immediately and at reasonable prices- these are the most urgent demands of our customers”, continues Freer.
Merritt has been successful for many years by building a graphics solutions business that is sensitive to its client needs. This acquisition continues that trend.
Freer, who has 18 years with the firm, looks at the future of digital offset and the parallel marketing challenges facing us all, by asking, “Starting today, how will your business make money, cut costs, create new customers? Short -run variable printing – printing that uses the power of the Internet, printing that enables one to one customer contact – these are the opportunities for you to take advantage of The New Business of Printing”.
Merritt’s three new Kodak Digimaster Production Printers offer the best print quality in its class, superior paper transport, open system architecture and an end-to-end workflow. The Kodak Digimaster print system employs powerful imaging technology to deliver documents with fine text and rich graphics at 600 dots per inch, at a rate of up to 150 images per minute. Extended paper supplies, high capacity stackers and in-line booklet makers, provides “one and done” solution, producing a completed booklet from an electronic file in one operation.
The Company has also expanded their bindery and finishing department with a high- speed booklet-maker capable of producing color, black and white, or mixed media saddle stitch booklets up to 80 pages in one operation. Combined with high-speed folders, cutters, and other bindery options, Merritt offers a full range of digital printing products and solutions.
According to Freer, the company now has the capability to turn around large printing orders overnight without expensive film or plate costs, as in traditional offset. No other “non-digital based” company in the Northeast can make this same claim.
